Bowling Bonanza 2017

Presenting Sponsor: The Bergen Foundation

KEEN Los Angeles hosted its first ever Bowling Bonanza - a new twist on our annual fundraiser, on Sunday May 21st, 2017.  The afternoon offered attendees the opportunity to bowl at the swanky Lucky Strike Bowling alley in downtown LA, magic shows by a Magic Castle magician, and delicious food to eat all while cheering on Team KEEN. Team KEEN was a team of bowlers made up of 10 KEEN athletes paired one-to-one with 10 core KEEN LA volunteers and charged with knocking down 200 pins total in one game.  In typical KEEN style, the athletes were meant to work together, rather than compete with each other.  At the end of their 45 minute challenge, Team KEEN had knocked down 418 pins!  The event also served as a platform to debut our new KEEN LA video (below) and honor the parents of our athletes who are as committed to each other as they are to making sure their child is at each KEEN session. It was wonderful to be able to celebrate alongside the parents, the athletes, the volunteers, as well as our board and donors.

We are grateful to the Bergen Foundation for being the Presenting Sponsor for the Bowling Bonanza and to our athlete sponsors for supporting each Team KEEN athlete.  The event would not have been nearly as successful without the support of Grant Bishop and the Bishop-Fishman family, Stephanie Duchene and Michael Duvall, Evan Weiss and the Weiss Family, Greg Sentenn, The LA Coaches Committee (with a special thank you to Lou-Lou, Polina and Jasmine), the Susan Strong Davis Foundation, the lawyers of Dentons LA, The Jack Walter Foundation, and 3 anonymous donors.  All in all, thanks to the generosity and commitment of the incredible KEEN community of athletes, volunteers, parents and supporters, KEEN LA far surpassed its fundraising goals - raising almost $17,000.  These funds will be used to strengthen our programs by purchasing additional adaptive equipment for the athletes, extending our aquatics program to go through the months of May and September, adding monthly parent resource seminars and offering healthy snacks at KEEN sessions - all in service of furthering our goals of empowering youth with disabilities by providing free, non-competitive one-to-one programs of exercise, fitness and fun and offering respite to caretakers and families.
