Volunteer CoachKEEN-LA Family Fun Team --> --> Where Everyone PlaysKEEN Los Angeles encourages our volunteers to have their own children participate as "Junior Coaches" or "Playmates". KEEN-LA's "Family Fun Teams" have been very effective and have a high retention rate. The impact on a typical child who volunteers with his or her family is tremendous: Junior Coaches and Playmates learn to appreciate the challenges their disabled peers must conquer as well as to respect, help and be patient with disabled peers. They become champions of disabled peers in their schools and neighborhoods. In return, the KEEN athletes can learn social and physical skills the way most children learn them - from other children. The best way to describe the KEEN-LA program is that it encourages everyone to play sports and have fun, regardless of ability or disability (or age). |
